Within Hades’ dungeon-crawler action, Zagreus ascends through multiple realms of the Underworld in order to face his father, Hades, and reach the surface. To do so, Hades presents helpful artifacts, along with a myriad of other items, boons, or treasures, in procedural chambers and through interactions with other character NPCs. Recently, Hades’ fresh take on traditional Greek mythology has inspired the creation of a refreshing beverage that pays homage to one of the game’s power-up artifacts.

Mitch Hutts, who also goes by MitchIsRedding, has shared the ingredients and directions for creating a mocktail based on Hades’ Pom of Power. The Pom of Power mocktail blends non-alcoholic, citrusy Aplós with pomegranate juice and lemon juice. The drink is distinctively blood-red, garnished with pomegranate seeds and a lemon twist that represents the golden reflection effect that appears in the Pom of Power’s item image. Further, Hades’ Pom of Power image depicts a whole pomegranate beside a pomegranate slice.
The Pom of Power mocktail was first shared onto The Drunken Moogle, a site which maintains a collective community that creates fan-made beverages based upon geek culture. Poms of Power are artifacts in Hades that essentially buff an existing boon that players presently have equipped. Therefore, if players would prefer to increase the level and stats of a particular boon that they already have, rather than seeking out another boon or item, then Poms of Power are crucial.
Poms of Power do not let players freely choose which boon of theirs to upgrade. Only three of the player’s boons will be shown when they receive a Pom of Power, from which the player then selects a single one to level up. But players may also come across a Pom Slice, which is a much riskier endeavor in Hades since it randomly selects a boon to level up instead of allowing the player to select a boon themselves.
Ultimately, it is up to players whether they wish to retrieve solicited Poms of Power or enter into a chamber that will reward players with one for clearing the room of its enemies. Mitch Hutts’ Hades mocktail is a fantastic representation of the item as a non-alcoholic drink, showcasing the simplicity and inspiration of Hades and its items.
Hades is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
