When the Switch first launched, one of the features that fans loved most was its portable dock, which enabled the device to be played both in the player’s hands and on a TV. But as portable as the Switch’s native dock is, its clunky design and tendency to scratch the Switch’s screen left more to be desired from fans, who seemed to yearn for a dock that was even more compact. Perhaps that is why it was so easy for Human Things to crowdsource the development of its Genki Covert Dock via Kickstarter, which was the most funded gaming hardware on Kickstarter last year.

The Genki Covert Doc is compact, discreet, sleek in design, and can do everything that the Switch’s native dock does. The device was designed with size and portability in mind, as it is 90% smaller than the Switch’s native dock and 22% smaller than its charger, making it small enough to easily fit in the player’s pocket. According to Genki’s website, it is also the first third party Switch charger that comes with a built-in HDMI display, allowing the Switch to be played in 1080p. It’s only the latest mini Switch dock to hit the market.
The device comes with various other features, including a global adapter that allows the device to be used in more than 180 countries, foldable prongs, and Gallium Nitride technology that replaces the traditionally used Silicone. The technology provides higher efficiency, cooler operation, and a smaller carbon footprint than Silicone. The dock’s uses are not just limited to the Switch, as it is also a suitable charger for smartphones, tablets, and many USB-C powered laptops. The device’s list of features gives it an advantage in the crowded market of Switch accessories.
Human Things was founded in 2017 by Eddie Tsai, Christopher Yue, and Andrew Geng. Besides the Genki Covert Dock, the company has also produced products including a portable Switch stand and a Blue Tooth audio adapter.
The Genki Covert Doc’s list of high tech features certainly makes it a nice option to have for Switch players wanting to replace their clunky native Docks, and looks to be the next step in building a better Dock for the Switch. The device is available via Genkithings.com for $74.99.
