“I’ve shown flashes of being a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback,” Smith told Newsday on Tuesday at a charity function in Manhattan. “But what we’re looking for here is consistency.”

Unfortunately for Smith, we don’t see much evidence of Pro Bowl flashes or even game-to-game consistency. Smith has thrown at least one interception in 21 of his 27 career appearances with a quarterback rating below 70 in 13 of those games. This season, the Jets are 25th in total offense and are last in net passing yards per game and per play.
Despite the struggles, Smith believes that the Jets, under his leadership, can turn it around in the future.
“It’s almost exciting to think about all the room for improvement that we have,” he said. “But at the same time, we’ve got to really hone in on the ‘right now.’”
Smith leads the 2-11 Jets against the 2-11 Titans on Sunday in a game that could help determine if the Jets can finish poorly enough to draft his replacement. With with Heisman front-runner Marcus Mariota of Oregon and 2013 winner Jameis Winston of Florida State among top options in the 2015 NFL Draft, Smith could be competing for his career in New York.
