Also known as Rex Lapis by his followers, this god of contracts and conditions guides act 1’s plot by falling dead by unknown means. Although we learn more about this later, there are still a lot of questions that players in the community want to be answered.
10 The God Of Contracts
Every god has their domain that they rule, and their ideal that they represent. Morax is no exception to this rule, representing the legal ideology of contracts and rules. More strictly speaking, Morax represents Order: this constant mission of ensuring stability and respect among his people.
Ultimately, this is the guiding message of the God of Contract’s actions throughout the story. His departure is meant to be an official passing of the ruling stick to his people, and he makes sure that every little detail is observed in the process of planning his funeral. This occurs repeatedly, with the plot ending similarly; rather than fighting, Morax gave up his Gnosis in a contract with the Fatui.
9 Rex Lapis Versus Morax
While Morax is the original name of the God of Contracts, he is known throughout the story by another. Rex Lapis is the name used by the vast majority of Morax’s followers, meant to show great respect.

Consequently, Morax has become an insult against the god throughout the story. Only members of his opposition continue to use the name Morax, such as the followers of Havria that have formed the Yinyuan Hall.
8 Morax In Real-Life
Like many of the gods in Genshin Impact, the name Morax has connections to the occult. More specifically, the Lesser Key of Solomon describes Morax as a “demon and president of Hell.”
In demonology, Morax shares many similarities to the Morax in the game. The demon is known to teach a wide variety of liberal sciences and astronomy and bless followers with knowledge of herbs and precious stones. This is similar to Genshin Impact’s god, who is known to have a wide variety of knowledge about the world.
7 Liyue’s Image Is Based On Him
The Archons are some of the most influential role models in their respective countries, so it’s only natural that they would be a huge factor in the country’s image. Liyue is exactly the same, with Morax forming the core principles of the country. This can be seen in the countries strong adherence to traditional values and contracts in business, however it goes a little further than just that.

Morax has had a key hand in forming the physical landscape of Liyue. Most clearly, he formed the Guyun Stone Forest with his own spears. That said, every part of the landscape was planned by the Geo Archon, from the mountains to the coasts to the country’s local specialties.
6 His Role In The Archon War
The Archon War easily became one of the deadliest conflicts in the history of Teyvat. This is especially the case in Liyue, given that several powerful gods actively opposed each other. Morax was the core participant of Liyue part of the era, a conflict killing many of the gods that had been his friends in the past.
The Guyun Stone Forest’s formation is perhaps the most well-known of these confrontations, between Osial and Morax. However, two other known gods also ceased in Morax’s pursuit of order: the Goddess of Salt, Havria, and one of Morax’s oldest companions, Guizhong. While Havria’s death had no involvement from Morax, Guizhong’s end became one of the most emotional events in Morax’s history.
5 Liyue Qixing’s Formation
The Liyue Qixing govern Liyue alongside the Adepti. However, their formation relates to Morax is often unknown to the many players in the Genshin Impact community. It was with Morax’s great assistance that the Liyue Qixing formed in the first place; after all, he was the one who introduced Ganyu into the mix.
Nowadays, Morax has a very respectful attitude for all of the members of the Liyue Qixing. He stated that people like Keqing are often fascinating to the gods for their skepticism. He also clearly shows great pride in Ningguang’s business ventures.
4 Ganyu’s Contract
Morax is all about contracts; everything he does is sealed by a contract one way or another. However, one of his oldest contracts was with the half-adeptus Ganyu. This contract is an example of the flaws of Morax’s model.

Ganyu signed a contract to forever be the secretary of the Liyue Qixing, and though she enjoys her work, it has had a significant impact on her life and well-being. She is forced to live among a people that she does not belong to (in her eyes.) And despite handling more work than anybody can normally handle, she forces herself to adhere to her contract out of respect for her god.
3 He Is A Shapeshifter
One of Morax’s more interesting abilities, he is easily able to change his appearance. It’s well-known that Morax’s true appearance is that of a dragon. This allows him to come down to Liyue Harbor while being known, keeping an eye on the mortal world in secret.
It’s known that Morax has done this on several occasions, most commonly during the Rite of Descension. However, he has also come down when not expected in various different forms, even coming down once as a woman.
2 The Yaksha
The Yaksha are Liyue’s equivalent of the Four Winds of Mondstadt. They were formed to maintain order in the land, though their formation was different than in Mondstadt. While the Four Winds were established to maintain order, the Yaksha started as soldiers of Morax during the Archon War.

They are much darker, having killed so many that they are plagued with the pain of karma. Nonetheless, they clearly loved Liyue to the extent of living for millennia to keep it safe. Xiao is currently the only Yaksha still alive.
1 His Relationship With The Gods
Unlike in the case of Barbatos, Morax seems to be well respected by the other gods of Teyvat. Obviously, he has a good relationship with Barbatos, built on a millennia’s worth of interactions. The neighboring countries are noted to be on good terms.
However, Morax seems to be well respected by the other gods as well. The Fatui seem to experience better treatment in Liyue than Mondstadt, enough to feel comfortable taking Morax’s gnosis in a deal. This may allude to a good (or at least amicable) relationship with the Tsaritsa.
