RELATED: Genshin Impact: 10 Mistakes Players Make When Using Ganyu
This 4-star Cryo character excels as a support in Genshin Impact. Her kit allows her to protect players with her shield and heal with her burst. While this sounds simple, she actually has some complexity in her gameplay. That may cause players to make some mistakes, as players can see here.
Updated September 13, 2021 by Nahda Nabiilah: Genshin Impact finally released the Electro region, Inazuma. The new area is a treat to the fans who have been craving for new content to be released. In total, there are six islands available in Inazuma, and they’re released slowly with upcoming versions. Not only a vast amount of new content and lands to explore but players are also treated with new types of equipment to consider. Other than that, a lot of new playable characters are also released. While this may be exciting, it also leads to new mistakes players might make. Whether it’s an artifact or team composition, players can find some examples here.
14 Not Building Her With Full HP
Diona is both a healer and a shielder. She is a bow user that bears the Cryo vision, allowing her to be a great support for Physical DPS. Her healing and shields scale with HP, so it might be obvious that players should build her with that stat.
However, since Diona heals with her burst, players might decide to use Healing Bonus on her circlet instead of a third HP%. While this is not a terrible idea, it’s certainly situational. Using Healing Bonus on her Circlet does mean Diona will heal more, but her shield will not benefit from it. Meanwhile, using full HP build will improve both her shield and her healing.
13 Using Diona with Emblem of Severed Fate
Emblem of Severed Fate is a new artifact released in Genshin Impact 2.0. This artifact set is an excellent choice for support characters that rely on their burst, like Xiangling or Raiden Shogun.
However, the 4-piece effect of the artifact is only good for damage dealing. Because Diona’s burst isn’t meant to deal damage, Emblem of Severed Fate won’t be optimal for her. Nevertheless, players can still opt for the 2-piece effect. With 2-Emblem of Severed Fate, Diona can benefit from the additional Energy Recharge. Diona can burst more often with this additional stat.
12 Not Using her with Cryo DPS
Using two Cryo characters in a party will trigger the Cryo Resonance. This allows characters to have an additional 15% Critical Rate against enemies affected by Cryo. Cryo units are massive with their Critical Rate boost. Players can practically play them with minimum Critical Rate and maximum Critical Damage.
Not only for Cryo Resonance, but Diona is also an excellent Cryo battery. This means, Diona generates a lot of energy and can easily fill Cryo character’s burst. This is highly beneficial for characters like Ayaka and Eula that deals massive damage with their burst.
11 Building Her as a DPS
Since Diona is a Cryo character, some players might try building her as a Physical damage DPS. Diona can easily trigger Superconduct, allowing higher physical damage to the enemies. Since her burst applies Cryo to the enemy every 2 seconds, pairing her with characters like Fischl or Razor is highly recommended for this reaction.
Still, players should keep in mind that Diona is not about damage. Both her skill and her burst deal low damage, so she should not be used as a DPS in Genshin Impact.
10 Not Using Her With Characters That Rely on Stamina
Diona’s skill doesn’t only offer protection, but it also boosts movement speed and reduces stamina consumption. This is great for characters that needs to reposition often, like Ayaka. It is also great to help players dodge incoming attack from the enemies.
Ayaka has a massive multiplier on her Charged attack, making it very tempting to spam. With Diona, Ayaka can worry less about her stamina, and Ayaka can also move around more freely. Diona can also be paired with characters like Yanfei, a character that relies on her Charged attack to deal damage.
9 Giving Her the Wrong Weapon
As support, Diona should have a bow with supportive abilities. This means most of the 5-stars bow won’t be optimal for her. Elegy of the End is the only suitable 5-star bow for Diona.

Energy recharge or HP is the sub-stat players should want on their weapon. Unlike with 5-star weapons, there are many options to choose from the 4-star options. Sacrificial Bow is the best weapon Diona can have at the moment. It allows her to cast her skill faster, while quickly filling her energy so she can burst more often.
8 Upgrading her Normal Attack
As a support, players need to focus on Diona’s skill and burst. These two talents are the core for Diona’s supportive kit. Diona’s fourth constellation actually boosts this talent, where her Charged attack becomes faster to cast. However, while this may be beneficial to do niche things like breaking an Electro Fatui’s shield, Diona’s Normal attack can mostly be forgotten.
In battle, Diona will not utilize her Normal attack as it will only reduce the main DPS’s field time. This is why players should save their limited resources and not waste them on Diona’s Normal attack.
7 Giving Her Blizzard or Cryo Damage
Building Diona with Cryo damage might sound good since she’s a Cryo user. Moreover, giving her 4-Blizzard Strayer also seems like a great idea since she can freeze enemies easily.
Diona can use any artifact sets and work perfectly, as long as she’s built with HP as a priority. Thus, players should not worry too much about giving her the perfect artifact. However, if players wish to maximize her potential, then it’s recommended to give her 4-Noblesse Oblige or 4-Maiden. Noblesse will improve her supportive role, while Maiden will improve her healing.
6 Not Using Her Hold Skill
Diona’s shield is one of her best aspects as support. It cleanses her party, gives them a movement speed buff, reducing stamina consumption, and of course protects them.
The duration of her shield depends on the number of her Icy Paws that hit the target. On her tap skill, Diona will launch only 2 Icy Paws. If players use her hold skill, then Diona will launch 5 Paws. The difference between tap skill and hold skill is crucial to remember. Most importantly, her hold skill has 75% extra damage absorption on her shield, making it a better option than the tap version.
5 Not Leveling Her Up
Despite being a healer and shielder that scales with HP, most players don’t realize that her base HP is low. Diona has 9570 HP on level 90, the fourth-lowest of the 31 playable characters. In fact, all her base stats are on the lower end. Her attack is the seventh-lowest, and her defense ranks at the fourth lowest.

As if that’s not enough, Diona’s ascension stat is also irrelevant to her role: Cryo Damage Bonus. With this in mind, leaving Diona at a lower level can hurt. Be sure to level her up as quickly as possible.
4 Not Utilizing Her Cleanse
In Genshin Impact 1.2, there was the infamous “11-2” of Spiral Abyss. This floor is by far the most hated for the “Engulfing Storm” debuff. With this debuff, players will continuously lose their energy, not allowing them to use their bursts.
Luckily, there’s a very simple solution to this debuff: Diona. Diona’s skill briefly applies Cryo to players’ character, allowing them to cleanse the Electro debuff and obtain energy normally. For this job, players might want to use her tap skill instead of her hold skill, to allow her to cleanse more often.
3 Underestimating Her Constellations
Some 4-star characters have underwhelming constellations, so it’s understandable for players to underestimate Diona’s as well. However, players should really consider Diona’s constellation.
Her first constellation gives her back 15 energy after her burst ended – a useful buff, since her burst requires 80 energy. The second constellation further improves her shield and makes it applicable to all other party members in her Co-op. Her sixth constellation also improves her burst, but it can be a little tougher to get.
2 Not Using Her to Create Elemental Reactions
Cryo is an element that balances between offensive and supportive. It can be used offensively with Pyro to create the Melt reaction, and both offensively and supportively with Electro to create the Superconduct reaction. Lastly, it is supportive with Hydro, causing “Wet” enemies to be Frozen.

Diona’s burst creates perfect situations for those reactions to occur. Players who don’t use Diona for such purposes are missing out on a lot of her elemental reaction potential.
1 Not Using Her in Abyss
Diona may not be the best shielder or the best healer, but players should not sleep on her supportive capabilities. Her kit is so unique, it’s almost a requirement in the Spiral Abyss.
She has a reliable Cryo application, and she can greatly help with elemental reactions or removing Electro Fatui’s shield. Furthermore, she can do this while providing protection and healing for the players’ DPS. Additionally, Spiral Abyss comes with various debuffs. Most of them can be cleansed with elemental reactions, and Diona is one of the best for the job.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
