Nilou is one of the newest additions to the Genshin Impact roster that has unusual mechanics. It’s easy to get confused between the things she has to offer and the long text of her skill descriptions. Therefore, to help players use Nilou properly, here are some mistakes people should avoid when using Nilou in Genshin Impact.

5 Not Knowing How Her Elemental Skill Works

Nilou has a unique Elemental Skill in Genshin impact, that players can use according to how they want to play her. After pressing her Elemental Skill, Nilou will enter a Pirouette state. Afterward, players can either tap her Skill or Normal Attack, each with their own “dance” effect:

Normal Attack : Deals Sword Dance damage Elemental Skill : Deals Whirling Steps damage

After “dancing” twice, players should be mindful of the third dance step.

Doing the Sword Dance (pressing Normal Attack) will cause Nilou to enter the Lunar Prayer effect, where players can continue dealing Hydro DMG for the next 8s. Doing the Whirling Steps (pressing Elemental Skill) creates a Tranquility Aura for 12s. Nilou will lose her Hydro Infusion, and instead will generate a small AoE of water underneath the active character. This AoE will continuously apply Hydro to enemies, allowing players to generate Bloom easily.

The idea behind this mechanic is to give players the choice of how they wish to play their Nilou. Entering the Lunar Prayer state allows the dancer to stay on the field, dealing damage as a DPS in Genshin impact. Meanwhile, creating the Tranquility Aura will make Nilou a Hydro-enabling support. In this state, it’s best to swap Nilou out and use a more offensive unit on the field.

4 Not Knowing How Nilou’s Ascension Passives Works

Nilou’s first-Ascension passive (A1) is incredibly wordy, so it’s understandable if players lose interest in reading it. Here’s a simple breakdown of the passive:

If all characters in the party are either Dendro and Hydro (and there’s at least one Hydro or Dendro character), Nilou’s third dance step will grant the Golden Chalice’s Bounty effect for 30s. The Golden Chalice’s Bounty will turn the Dendro Cores generated by Bloom into Bountiful Cores . Bountiful Cores explode in less than a second, unlike Dendro Cores which require 6s to explode. Players can’t use Bountiful Cores to trigger Hyperbloom or Burgeon. In the duration of Golden Chalice’s Bounty effect, getting hit by Dendro DMG will increase the team’s Elemental Mastery by 100 for 10s.

The Bountiful Cores is the star of Nilou’s gameplay thanks to her A4:

For every 1k HP above 30k, the DMG dealt by these Cores are increased by 9%. Max 400%.

3 Underestimating Nilou’s Tranquility Aura

Although it may seem like a waste to not keep Nilou on the field, players should not underestimate Nilou’s Tranquility Aura. The AoE may not deal damage, but since players’ main focus should be to create Bountiful Cores, this Aura can be more useful than Nilou’s Hydro Infusion.

For instance, if players enter the Lunar Prayer state, Nilou will have to stay on the field. This means players must use the Dendro characters before Nilou. So for a few seconds, the Dendro application on the field will not be affected by Nilou’s Golden Chalice’s Bounty effect.

Meanwhile, if Nilou is working as a support in Genshin Impact, then she can take the field first to create the Tranquility Aura, then, players can bring the Dendro characters to make a chaos of Bountiful Cores on the battlefield.

2 Not Having A Healer On Nilou’s Team

Nilou’s A1 grants her team 100 Elemental Mastery each time a character is hit by Dendro DMG. Luckily, this is easy as Bountiful Cores and Dendro Cores both deal Dendro DMG when they explode, so players can simply stay in the AoE to activate the effect.

The DMG dealt to the players is roughly 5% of the original damage, so if the Core deals 30k damage to the enemies, then players will get around 1.5k damage. Considering how many Cores players will be making with Nilou, this small damage will quickly stack up, and the next thing people know, the team would have lost half of its HP. Because of this, players have to either dodge the Bountiful Cores or bring a Genshin Impact healer on the team.

1 Underestimating Nilou’s Constellations

While Nilou is highly functional at C0, players should not underestimate Nilou’s Constellations in Genshin Impact. Three out of four extra enhancements from Nilou’s Constellations are worth pursuing.

The first Constellation allows Nilou to be a full-time support and a slightly better DPS. Her C2 is the most important upgrade of all, where players will reduce the enemy’s Hydro and Dendro RES, increasing the team’s overall DPS by a large amount. Finally, Nilou’s C6 allows players to play her more as a damage dealer in Genshin Impact. Although, of course, the amount of investment required to get C6 is really high.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
