Knowing what to do with a character is a moving ground that changes along with the meta. This concept keeps the game fresh and joyful. So, to avoid future errors, here are some of the mistakes players make when using Jean.
6 Operating Her As A Healer
There is so much evidence that supports Jean being a healer in Genshin Impact. Her first ascension passive grants healing upon landing a Normal attack, her ascension special stat is Healing Bonus, and her Elemental Burst can greatly heal. So it’s understandable when players include her in their team comps to be their healer.
However, Jean can do much more than that. She can heal, cleanse, buff, debuff, and even deals some decent DMG. The Acting Grand Master can easily operate as a Support/Sub-DPS with more jobs than just healing. Using Jean for multiple roles will allow people to bring other utilities into the party.
5 Using The Wrong Sword
As a Sword user in Genshin Impact, it may be confusing what kind of weapon Jean should wield. Players can use Primordial Jade Cutter and Mistsplitter Reforged to maximize her raw Anemo DMG while swords like Freedom-Sworn Iron Sting will increase her Swirl DMG.

Of course, when Jean operates as a Support/Sub-DPS she needs her Elemental Burst to always be active. So having swords like Amenoma Kageuchi, Sacrificial Sword, and Favonius Sword will help keep her Dandelion Field always active. Some of these swords can even help her team regain their Burst as well.
4 She’s Not A Main DPS
The numbers on Jean’s Burst and Skill are good enough for her to be built as a Sub-DPS. Now, add the fact that her ascension bonus implies she uses her Normal attacks to heal herself and her team. Many players can be misled into thinking Jean shines as the main DPS.
Of course, Travelers can always choose to play Jean as a Physical main DPS, but she’ll easily fall behind the top DPS characters in Genshin Impact. The same case can be seen with Qiqi and Barbara. Both can heal their allies via their Normal attacks, but it’s definitely not their forte.
3 Not Managing Her Energy Properly
Most of Jean’s utility comes from her Elemental Burst. Of course, Elemental Bursts are a product of Energy management. Without that, the character that heavily depends on them will be an empty shell of what they can be. For that, managing Jean’s Energy is crucial to keep her relevant during the combat.
Players can enhance her Energy regeneration by making sure to switch back and forth between her and the main DPS to cast her Elemental Skill and produce more Anemo particles. She can also wield weapons like Amenoma Kageuchi, which works perfectly if she kept casting her Skill. Sacrificial Sword also works with its Energy Recharge substat and by helping Jean cast more Gale Blades.
2 Placing Her In Undesirable Situations
Anemo characters are known to always be flexible to be paired with any team comp that has Pyro, Hydro, Cryo, and Electro units in Genshin Impact. So there’s not much room for error here, but if it does happen, it’s a disaster.

Jean can’t be included in team compositions that focus on Elements she doesn’t Swirl with, such as Dendro and Geo. If players found themselves creating a team full of Geo characters, it’s best to leave Jean out of it. However, Jean can be one of the best Genshin Impact battery for other Anemo characters like Xiao. She can also be a buffer or a debuffer for her team, making sure they perform at a higher level.
1 Not Matching Her Artifacts With Her Role
It’s important for players to understand that most Anemo characters have their roles decided by their artifacts, not their talents. While their Skills, Bursts, and ascensions play a big part in deciding their role, the ultimate decision comes after pairing them with the right artifacts.
For example, Jean with 4-Viridescent Venerer is a Support/Sub-DPS with an obvious job of debuffing enemies. She can be paired with Bennett to form the Sunfire team composition and deal some superb DMG, but that’s due to Bennett’s existence in the team. Basically, he can make any character shine. Another set is building Jean with 4-Noblesse Oblige. This set turns Jean into a buffer that can benefit her entire team by adding some raw stats. Whatever players decided Jean’s role should be, they should further support it with the right build.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
