Nevertheless, some players may still find it difficult to make the most of Yaoyao’s capabilities. Her kit can seem daunting initially due to long descriptions, and it can be hard to figure out how to use her abilities correctly. However, once players take heed of the common mistakes listed below and experience Yaoyao’s playstyle themselves, they will find that Yaoyao has the potential to be one of the strongest healers in Genshin Impact.
6 Upgrading The Wrong Skill
Because Yaoyao is best suited to be played as a support character and mostly off-field, it is not necessary to focus on upgrading her Normal Attack in order to save resources. Her most valuable ability is her Elemental Skill, which can be used both on-field and off-field, and so should be the primary focus for upgrading.
Yaoyao’s Elemental Burst can heal for more, but since it requires her to be on the field for some time while having a long cooldown and high energy cost, it should be less of a priority. In general, the upgrade priority should be: Elemental Skill > Elemental Burst > Normal Attack.
5 Focusing only on the HP Stat
Although Yaoyao’s Elemental Skill and Burst both scale from HP, players should not focus solely on this, as, while it may provide a large amount of healing, Yaoyao will lack in other areas. For example, if she is not built with enough Energy Recharge, players will not be able to activate her Burst as often, resulting in less or no healing when needed. Additionally, as Yaoyao can perform as a Dendro battery character, having low Energy Recharge could be disadvantageous for the other members of the party.
Furthermore, although Yaoyao is an easy character to build and players can focus on HP stat, for the most part, it is highly recommended to invest in some of the other stats, as having no Elemental Mastery will severely hinder the team’s overall damage output for the Dendro elemental reactions. Balancing out HP with the other stats will help Yaoyao maximize her contribution to the team.
4 Not Knowing How Her Burst Works
In general, Yaoyao’s Elemental Burst works much like her Elemental Skill, except with more instances and better scaling as it can summon multiple Yuegui (the bunnies), similar to how Amber summons Baron Bunny. With its 5-second duration in the Adeptal Legacy state, it is recommended that players summon three Yuegui before the duration ends or Yaoyao is swapped out for maximum healing and Dendro application.

Unlike the Elemental Skill, her Elemental Burst can also heal all nearby party members, making her especially useful in teams that are prone to taking a lot of damage, such as Bloom teams. Furthermore, Yaoyao’s Ascension passive, Starscatter, allows her to throw White Jade Radishes at enemies while she sprints, runs, or jumps, providing additional mobility and damage potential. This, combined with Yaoyao’s increased movement speed during Elemental Burst duration, allows her to be much more agile than some other healers, providing an enjoyable and dynamic gameplay experience where players don’t need to remain in a specific area of effect to receive healing or do more damage.
3 Not Knowing The Nuances Of Her Elemental Skill
Yaoyao’s Elemental Skill works in two different ways, tap or hold mode, and can do different things based on where it is thrown and the active character’s HP level when it comes in contact. Tapping or holding does not provide any difference except for the location the Yuegui will throw the radishes, which many Genshin Impact players are familiar with when it comes to characters that can summon companions, such as Fischl. The Yuegui will automatically determine whether to throw radishes at the active character or enemies based on the nearby characters’ HP level: if it is lower than 70%, the radishes will be thrown at the character; otherwise, they will be thrown at the enemies.
Based on whether players are planning to use the Elemental Skill for healing or Dendro application, they should either aim by holding for the optimal result or benefit from both Dendro application and healing by being very close to the enemy when the White Jade Radishes explode. Yaoyao’s second Ascension passive, In Others’ Shoes, will also heal active characters if they are in the AoE of the explosion; thus, the latter option is recommended for players focusing on a hybrid build for Yaoyao.
2 Not Knowing How to Maximize Her Healing
For Yaoyao to maximize her healing capabilities, players should build her with HP and Healing Bonus as both her Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst scale with HP. She’ll also need a significant amount of Energy Recharge to be able to use her Burst as often as possible. For the artifact set, the best option for pure healing focus is combining 2-piece Tenacity of the Millelith and 2-piece Maiden Beloved, or 2-piece Ocean-Hued Clam. For her weapons, players can either choose Black Tassel or Favonius Lance if they do not have enough Energy Recharge.

Players should focus on summoning as many Yuegui as possible in either Elemental Skill or Burst and letting them explode near the active character for healing. During her burst, players should ensure they run, sprint, or jump with Yaoyao nearby an enemy in order to spawn more radishes that will explode on an enemy, while providing additional healing if the character is nearby.
1 Not Utilizing Her Outside Of Healing
Yaoyao is an incredibly versatile Dendro Healer, being the first of her kind who can use Dendro on enemies reliably. This makes her a great choice for parties that need additional Dendro characters for better team composition. Her Elemental Skill has a long duration and a short cooldown while being active off-field, allowing her to fit perfectly into teams that require the main DPS to stay on the field for extended periods without interruption. Moreover, her skill can be quickly refreshed to provide continuous support during the downtime of the DPS character.
As her healing scales only with HP and is not split between stats, players can easily focus on other stats and sub-stats without missing out on building her with the necessary amount of HP. This allows players to also build Yaoyao with a significant amount of Elemental Mastery on her artifact sub-stats or weapon.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
