Note: For the purposes of this tier list, non-starter 4-star characters are considered C6 since it’s relatively easy to get their sixth constellation. As for 5-star characters, most Genshin Impact players don’t have their constellations, so they’ll be considered at C0.
D Tier
Aloy
At this point, it feels like Aloy was made to be bad. This Cryo archer doesn’t possess any skill that can redeem her bad abilities. And to make things worse, she doesn’t have any constellation to save her.
Lisa
Lately, Lisa has been getting some love from Genshin Impact fans. Her fourth Ascension passive is seeing some light since players are discovering how important it is to reduce enemies’ defense. Sadly, Lisa’s true ability is hidden in her constellations, and it’s extremely hard to get them since she’s only available in the Standard Banner.
Amber
Amber is easily the most hated character among the Meta-slaves. The sad part is that she basically eliminates any reason to defend her. Maybe her C6 can raise her rank from the endless bottom tier in Genshin Impact. But then again, she’s only available in the Standard banner, and C6 Amber is almost impossible.

Xinyan
Xinyan is a mess of a character. She’s the only unit that struggles to find an identity on the battlefield. While she is able to do many things, like shielding, supporting, and dealing damage, she’s bad at all of them. Her constellations don’t even save her; instead, they further confuse her role.
C Tier
Sayu
Sayu is one of the most underrated characters in Genshin Impact. Her Anemo vision, with her healing abilities, can add so much to her team. If built with Verdesent Venerer, she can heal and reduce enemies’ resistance at the same time. Unfortunately, many characters outshine the small ninja.
Chongyun
Players who main Chongyun know how good he can be when built right and put in the correct circumstances in Genshin Impact. But the fact still stands that as of the current meta, he will still underperform compared to many other characters.
Razor
Razor was and still is an amazing Physical DPS character in Genshin Impact. However, the current meta is heavily reliant on Elemental Reactions and Synergy, and Physical characters like Razor have no place in this type of gameplay.

Yae Miko
Yae Miko is simply underwhelming. While she’s F2P friendly, she still underperforms at max build. One of her main issues is that her Sakuras take too long to be deployed. What’s more, her Burst only deals okay damage, and it needs a long time to be set up as well.
Gorou
Gorou can be a great addition if he is placed in the right Genshin Impact team composition. And by the right team composition, it means pairing him with Arataki Itto. Gorou can also support Noelle, but she doesn’t have the same weight that Itto has on the battlefield. All in all, Gorou is not very versatile.
Noelle
Noelle is the jack of all trades in Genshin Impact. She can do so many things during combat, like dealing decent damage, shielding, and healing at the same time. Yet, her supportive abilities are not essential in the current Burst Meta.
Keqing
While Keqing is one of the most fun characters to play in Genshin Impact, she still lacks the damage other Electro units have. However, her small window of invincibility during her Burst can come in handy in some situations.
Barbara
Barbara is an outstanding healer and can beneficially apply Hydro on close combat characters like Keqing. However, the ongoing Hydro application she puts on her team during her Elemental Skill causes a lot of frustration, and drops her usage among other healers.
Yanfei
Yanfei takes what’s working with Ningguang and applies it endlessly to herself. All of Yanfei’s abilities and constellations work for the same purpose: to boost and improve her Charged attacks. However, since she loses Stamina when she uses her Charged attacks, Yanfei’s whole plan falls short.

Traveler
It seems like the Traveler is always bound to struggle when it comes to the Meta. Whether using Anemo, Geo, or Electro, the Traveler underperforms against almost everyone in their Element Category. Players are better off using any one of the other characters with a better grasp of the given element.
B Tier
Qiqi
Qiqi can be an amazing addition to almost any team composition. The way her healing works in Genshin Impact allows her to continuously heal while off-field. This saves time and gives DPS characters space to deal more damage. With Ocean-Hued Clam, Qiqi can now heal and deal great damage at the same time.
Rosaria
Rosaria has proven to be a reliable Support in Genshin Impact. It is best to pair her with other Cryo units since she will massively increase their Critical Rate. Additionally, she possesses an excellent Cryo application, and can serve as a decent battery.
Beidou
There are so many things that Beidou can do during combat that it’s not even funny how underrated she is. Although many players have praised her potential, she remains underused and underappreciated. She can apply Electro, shield, and inflict great damage, all while off-field.
Fischl
Fischl can perfectly take on the role of Sub-DPS, and she’s also acceptable as a main DPS in Genshin Impact. Her core ability is when she opens her sixth constellation. C6 Fischl will continuously spam her Electro hits alongside any character dealing damage on the field.
Kujou Sara
Kujou Sara is an amazing Electro Support in Genshin Impact. Her buff isn’t that great compared to Bennett, yet she still manages to massively increase the Critical Damage of Electro units affected by her buff.
Kaeya
Because he’s a standard banner character, it’s hard to improve Kaeya’s abilities with constellations. Luckily, he still deals enough damage, decently applies Cryo, and can take the role of the team’s battery.
Yun Jin
Yun Jin is a pleasant surprise for any player that depends on their Normal attacks. Her Geo Element helps unlock the Geo resonance, which will increase characters’ damage by 15% while shielded. She can also buff her team’s Normal attacks’ damage and speed.
Ningguang
No matter where Ningguang falls within the meta, she will always be one of the best DPS characters in Genshin Impact. With all her constellations unlocked, Ningguang can be a force to be reckoned with. Others may be more broken, but Ningguang will always be a solid choice.

Diluc
Diluc was the best DPS when Genshin Impact first came out. But through the versions, his usefulness and abilities dropped. This Pyro character still can be a good damage dealer, but not as good as the other characters ranking above him.
Klee
Just like Diluc, Klee has fallen through the tiers as Genshin Impact progresses and introduces new characters that are more suitable as a DPS. She is a solid addition and still performs, but not as well as the new units.
Thoma
Thoma can be an average Genshin Impact shielder and can fairly apply Pyro during his Burst duration. However, his Pyro application delay messes with many of his synergies, putting him at a lower tier than other options like Xiangling.
A Tier
Jean
Jean is easily one of the best healers in Genshin Impact. Just like Sayu, Jean can fully support her team by healing and reducing enemies’ resistance through her Anemo Element, making her an excellent addition to many teams.
Sucrose
Sucrose achieves everything Anemo characters are supposed to accomplish. She can crowd control enemies and reduce their resistance, while taking the role of a battery for other Anemo characters.
Xiao
Xiao can deal a ridiculous amount of damage during his Elemental Burst. Unfortunately for him, the Meta right now is all about quick bursts and swaps. He can still carry the team damage, but not quite as well as he used to.
Diona
As a support, Diona shines among many other characters that can do what she does. She can heal, shield, and cleanse her teammates. C6 Diona can also massively increase her team’s Elemental Mastery during her Burst.
Eula
This character is the one that dethrones Razor from the title of best Physical DPS in Genshin Impact. Eula can be tricky to use, but her secret lies inside her Burst damage. The more aggressive she is, the more damage her Lightfall Sword will inflict when it explodes.
Shenhe
Lately, many niche characters were introduced to Genshin Impact, and Shenhe is one of them. She solely focuses on supporting Cryo units by exclusively increasing their Cryo attacks damage. While that sounds good on paper, it’s slot-consuming unless players put Shenhe with at least two other Cryo characters to fully take advantage of her buff. Still, for fans of the icy element, Shenhe is an excellent addition.
Albedo
When it comes to off-field damage, Albedo is top tier. If built right, he can inflict an unbelievable amount of damage. Albedo is also a great battery and can be one-half of the Geo Resonance requirement.
Arataki Itto
Arataki Itto has a unique playstyle in Genshin Impact. Once his burst is on, he can continuously Charge attacks his way through enemies with a huge amount of AoE Geo damage. His only downfall is that he needs a team to be built around him to help increase his potential, specifically Gorou, making him less versatile than some other powerful characters.
Mona
As a former main character in the Morgana team composition, Mona had the luxury to be a top-tier unit. She was able to continually apply Hydro and massively increase Ganyu’s damage. After introducing Kokomi and Ayato, though, Mona’s rank has dropped slightly since now there are better options to apply Hydro. Still, one shouldn’t discount her Hydro application’s usefulness.
Yoimiya
Yoimiya inflicts an exceptional amount of damage to single targets. She’s amazing against bosses and lonely enemies, but she’s squishy and badly requires protection to help her maintain her Normal attack sequence. Be sure to pair her with a good healer.
S Tier
Venti
Venti was and will always be a broken character in Genshin Impact. Even after his recent indirect nerfs, he still can provide unmatched support to his team. He can crowd-control and reduce enemies’ resistance, not to mention that he is currently the best battery in Genshin Impact.
Ganyu
When it comes to steady damage, Ganyu is the best to take that role. Even after the release of many new characters, Ganyu is still one of the best main DPS in Genshin Impact. Not to mention, she is a core element in the Morgana team composition.
Raiden Shogun
In addition to providing an outstanding amount of damage during her Burst duration, Raiden Shogun will fill her entire team’s Bursts. She is in the higher tiers because of how good she is as a Sub-DPS, while providing good enough support. She’s incredibly versatile and a great team addition.

Zhongli
The shield that Zhongli provides is unbreakable and can survive so many circumstances, especially in the Abyss. Zhongli’s shield also has other abilities, like reducing enemies’ resistance, even Physical. He’ll also endlessly increase his team’s damage by 15% if people have another Geo character in the party.
Kamisato Ayato
Any Hydro or Cryo character that has a wide Elemental application on the battlefield is an immediately S-tier plus character. Ayato, fitting this description, instantly joined Morgana teams worldwide and together they wrecked the Abyss. Of course, his Elemental Skill is the icing on the cake.
Bennett
Almost two years into Genshin Impact, Bennett is still untouched in terms of the support he provides. He is a complete supportive unit that makes any character look exceptional doing what they do. His healing, buff, and energy providing is still earning him a place among the top-tier units in Genshin Impact.
S+ Tier
Childe
The recent Abyss had many groups of enemies bulking together, so it was natural for the best AoE DPS in Genshin Impact to rise through the ranks. Tartaglia’s usage greatly improved in the Abyss lately to reach the numbers of Hu Tao and Ganyu.
Hu Tao
Hu Tao and Xingqiu’s synergy still thrive and beat any other synergy in Genshin Impact. Although in the April Spiral Abyss Hu Tao falls short, it’s still not enough reason for her to fall off the S+ tier. The Pyro user will always be one of the best damage dealers in the game.
Xingqiu
Xingqiu can do everything and be paired with any DPS to make them look amazing. He can protect, effectively apply Hydro on a single target, and most importantly, inflict significant damage while off-field. And although his skill has a long cooldown, it still provides enough energy to help fill his team’s Bursts.
Kamisato Ayaka
Ayaka is amazing as both main DPS and Sub-DPS in Genshin Impact. She’s very easy to use and has the potential to deal great damage at the same time. Ever since her release, Kamisato Ayaka has been maintaining her spot in the S+ tier.
Kaedehara Kazuha
In a Genshin Impact Meta that revolves around Elemental damage, Kazuha’s Elemental damage buff and resistance reduction is a major boost to most Genshin Impact teams. The wandering samurai will likely occupy this spot a while longer.
Sangonomiya Kokomi
Sangonomiya Kokomi’s flexibility as a healer allows her to be an easy addition to any Genshin Impact team. Now, thanks to Ocean-Hued Clam, Kokomi manages to outclass Barbara and enter her way to the top-tier.
Xiangling
Since Genshin Impact 1.0, Xiangling has always been an amazing unit. She can deal great off-field damage and can do endless Genshin Impact Elemental reactions. Considering how overpowered she is, people likely won’t see a character like her anytime soon.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
