However, it’s worth noting that these NPC challenges force players to play a team that can finish the match easily. This may not fit so well with people that like playing defensively. Unfortunately, as of now, a defensive team can only be used in a non-rewarding environment, like the PvP. If duelers are seeking inspiration for the best defensive teams in Genshin Impact Genius Invokation TCG, then the following list can be used as a reference.
4 Kaeya + Noelle + Ningguang
Noelle and Ningguang allow Genshin Impact players to bring the Elemental Resonance: Enduring Rock into the deck. This Event card grants a whopping three Shield points after a character deals Geo DMG. The only condition is that there must be a Shield Combat Status on the players’ side. Three Shield points are massive as they can block a large chunk of hits, even allowing characters to survive a deadly single-target Elemental Burst.
In this team, Noelle can provide a Shield and even heal if she has her Talent card. Ningguang can protect using her Jade Screen, while Kaeya can constantly heal himself by casting his Elemental Skill (he has to equip his Talent card, though).
Players also don’t have to worry about lacking DPS; Kaeya is a great sub-DPS with low Energy demand, Ningguang can deal great single-target Burst damage, while Noelle can be a Geo DPS once she casts her ultimate. Ningguang and Noelle’s Geo will also ensure more Shields are generated via Crystallized as long as the enemy has the required Elemental Status on them.
3 Xingqiu + Noelle + Barbara
This time, Barbara and Xingqiu allow players to use the Elemental Resonance: Soothing Water card. This Event card has a powerful healing that grants two HP for the active character, and one for everyone else. Unlike the Geo Resonance card, there’s no condition required to activate this effect.

In this team, Barbara will constantly provide AoE heal using her Elemental Skill, and Noelle can do the same once players activate her Talent card. Meanwhile, Xingqiu can grant minor Shield using his Elemental Skill, further increasing the team’s protection. For the damage dealer, Xingqiu will act as a Burst support while Noelle will do the damage dealing as soon as her Elemental Burst is activated. The Hydro applied by Barbara and Xingqiu will help Noelle’s Geo to trigger Crystallized, which creates a Shield point for the team.
If players are going against enemies that play with offensive Elemental Reactions, Barbara and Xingqiu can easily cleanse the status away. However, keep in mind that the self-Hydro-application could also mean the enemy can trigger unexpected Elemental Reaction.
2 Diona + Fatui Agent + Ningguang
Diona is both a Shielder and a healer in Genshin Impact Genius Invokation TCG. However, her healing comes from her Burst and may be difficult to cast. Fortunately, her Shield comes from her Elemental Skill, which can be activated rather easily. When her Talent card is activated, Diona’s Shield will provide two Shield points instead of one.
Fatui Agent has a passive that provides himself with the Stealth status. This allows him to take one less damage and deal one extra. After using his Talent card, this status will last for three Usages instead of two and will convert his damage into Pyro DMG. Combine Pyro and Cryo and players will have a Melt combo between Diona and the Fatui Agent. Finishing the Tavern Challenge is required for players to get this Genius Invokation TCG Monster card.
Finally, Ningguang can trigger the Crystallized Reaction by reacting with Diona’s Cryo or Fatui Agent’s Pyro. This will ensure players get both offense and defense from this team.
1 Xingqiu + Chongyun + Kaeya
Unlike the rest of the team, Xingqiu + Chongyun + Kaeya doesn’t offer many defensive capabilities. Xingqiu can still protect with his Elemental Skill and Kaeya can heal with his Skill after his Talent card is used, but the idea behind this team isn’t that.
Instead, this Genshin Impact Genius Invokation TCG team takes the idea of “offense is the best defense”. Here, players have to focus on constantly freezing the enemies, rendering them helpless. Chongyun allows everyone in the team to deal Cryo damage using their Normal Attack, and Xingqiu can apply Hydro with his Elemental Skill. The combo of Chongyun and Kaeya means players can now use the Elemental Resonance: Shattering Ice card, which increases any damage by two; no conditions are involved.

After stacking two Energy on Xingqiu, the Guhua Disciple can cast his Burst. It will deal Hydro damage along with Normal Attacks. Pair the team’s Cryo hits with Xingqiu’s Hydro to gain easy access to a permafreeze team.
In this team, players can also make some tweaks. Instead of having Kaeya, Mona can take his spot and duelers can get access to the Hydro Resonance card. However, just keep in mind that Mona won’t be able to benefit from Chongyun’s Cryo field. Instead, Mona allows players to easily switch between characters. Her main job is protecting the precious Chongyun at the end of each round.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
