Ganyu
Ganyu is the newest five-star character to release on Genshin Impact’s roster, and players have been long awaiting her arrival. Many have saved up their wishes and skipped out on Albedo, so they could pity-pull her from the gacha, and so far, she hasn’t been disappointed. Not only has Ganyu surprisingly proven to be a powerful DPS rather than a Cryo Support, but she is one of the easiest characters to use. Similarly, figuring out which Artifacts and weapons to equip her with is very straightforward, to create the best build for Ganyu.

Updated on January 21, 2022, by Nahda Nabiilah: The announcement of Ganyu’s rerun banner in Version 2.4 has players ecstatic. Fans have been waiting for Ganyu for over a year, so many would rush to pull on her banner. In Genshin Impact, every character possesses unique skills and passive abilities that make them stand out. Ganyu is no exception. While many units focus on their skills, the Adeptus relies on her charge attacks to deal maximum damage to her opponents. A variety of artifacts and weapons have been added to Genshin Impact to support the abilities of new characters. However, the presence of this equipment also creates shifts in some older units’ best-in-slot.
Best Artifacts for Ganyu
Ganyu is one of the most versatile characters in Genshin Impact. While the obvious route is to use her as a main DPS, the Qilin is more than capable of working in the sub-DPS role.
Main DPS
Because Ganyu’s primary source of damage comes from her charged attacks (which do not require skills or cooldown), her only downtime is two seconds between each hit. Whatever her artifacts are, the best stats players should target when building her would be:
Timepiece: Attack Goblet: Cryo Damage Circlet: Crit Damage (or Crit Rate if necessary)
Wanderer’s Troupe enhances Ganyu’s charged attacks by 35% and improves her Elemental Reaction damage. However, of course, for a reaction to occur, Ganyu will need a Pyro unit with her. Otherwise, the buff will be useless. So the pros and cons of using 4-Wanderer Troupe are:
Pros:
Decent boost to Ganyu’s charged attacks (35%) Decent damage buff to her Elemental Reactions
Cons:
The 2-piece effect is useless without Elemental Reactions Is only farmable via bosses
Shimenawa’s Reminiscence is also a good option for Ganyu since it massively adds 50% to her charged hits after using her skill. However, to activate this passive, Ganyu must lose 15 Energy (If the unit doesn’t have enough Energy, then the effect won’t be triggered). In short, the pros and cons of using 4-Shimenawa’s Reminiscence are:
Pros:
Massive boost to Ganyu’s charged attacks (50%) Decent attack increase (18%)
Cons:
Ganyu won’t be able to Burst frequently
Meanwhile, Blizzard Strayer won’t increase Ganyu’s damage, rather it will assist her in ensuring Critical Hits on every attack. The 2-set grants a 15% Cryo Damage boost, while the 4-set increases her Critical Rate by 20%. This effect is doubled to 40% if hitting a frozen enemy. This artifact gives her the ability to add more Crit Damage to her stats without having to worry about Crit Rate.
However, this set in particular is restricted to a team composition that supports freezing enemies. Therefore, Ganyu will need a great Cryo applicator in the team. Usually, this artifact is used in a Morgana Comp, also known as a Perma-freeze Comp. This consists of an Anemo unit (Venti, Sucrose, or Kazuha) and a Hydro enabler (Mona or Kokomi). To summarize, the pros and cons of using 4-Blizzard Strayer are:
Pros:
Decent Cryo Damage boost Large Crit Rate boost against frozen enemies
Cons:
Ganyu must be paired with a good Hydro enabler More niche than the other two sets
Sub-DPS
As far as artifacts go, it’s likely that miHoYo released the Blizzard Strayer set to prep specifically for Ganyu, though it also works excellently on any Cryo character. The Blizzard Strayer works perfectly well on its own, increasing her Cryo Damage by 15% at 2-piece. It also increases any party member’s Crit Rate by 20% for attacking an enemy affected by Cryo at 4-piece, and another 20% if the enemy is frozen.
But some players are opting for the 2-piece Blizzard set and pairing it up with Noblesse Oblige. This can work because of Noblesse’s increase to Elemental Burst Damage. If players want to focus on Ganyu’s ultimate and make her their Sub-DPS, a 2-piece Blizzard and 2-piece Noblesse is the way to go.
For Sub-DPS Ganyu, the best artifacts are:
2-Blizzard Strayer + 2-Noblesse Oblige 4-Noblesse Oblige 4-Blizzard Strayer
Best Weapons for Ganyu
As far as Genshin Impact bows go, there are options depending on whether players are F2P or putting down cash on the gacha. For five-star weapons that can only be obtained via the gacha, players want to focus on Ganyu’s normal and charged attacks. For this, Travelers can equip Amos’ Bow for its attack% and Aimed Shot Damage increase. If focusing on her Elemental Burst, go after the Skyward Harp for its increase to Crit Rate and Damage.
Meanwhile, F2P players can opt for 4-star bows such as Prototype Crescent and Blackcliff Warbow. Prototype Crescent will increase Ganyu’s attack when she hits an enemy’s weak spot. Meanwhile, Blackcliff Warbow will increase her attack when Ganyu kills an enemy. When comparing the two bows, they’re head-to-head in performance. Crescent is generally better against enemies with weak spots, while Blackcliff is better against a hoard of small enemies.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
