The game’s unique combat system is most based on combining different elements in order to trigger varios elemental reactions and increase damage. However, the game’s weapons play a huge part of each Genshin Impact character’s build, and it seems like players will finally have a new type of weapon.

Each Genshin Impact character can wield only a certain type of weapon. For example, the upcoming double banner characters Albedo and Eula have different weapon types meaning that Albedo cannot use Eula’s claymore. At the moment there is a total of five weapon types but miHoYo never denied that it would not add more in the future. A recent leak by one of the most credible Genshin Impact leakers, Ubatcha1, has revealed that a new weapon type is currently in the making.
Adding a new weapon would certainly shake up the current meta. At the moment, claymore users are usually the strongest DPS characters in Genshin Impact but this could change in the future. Even though the abundance of character seems to be one of the game’s biggest assets, players are often complaining that only five weapon types are not enough claiming that adding new weapon types should be in sync with the character roster expansion.
The tweet claims that the weapon would mix close combat and ranged weapon types which would not be the first time for miHoYo to allow such fighting mechanics for one character. One of the fan-favorite characters, Childe, has the option to constantly swap between melee and ranged attacks. Constantly managing his cooldown made Childe much harder to master compared to most other characters which is actually a good thing since the game’s fighting mechanics can become a bit too easy to execute as well as repetitive.
The leaks about this new weapon type have also raised questions about the Dendro element and when it could arrive. Out of seven elements, Dendro is the only one that is cannot be used by playable characters in the game. It can be applied by just a handful of common and elite enemies in the game. Dendro leaks have always been tied with the region of Chasm which is rumored to be one of the upcoming Genshin Impact regions.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
