It doesn’t have as many invulnerability phases but it’s a tough enemy and it also flies around. It doesn’t go as high or as evasive as the Oceanid but just hovers above enough to vex melee characters. To make matters worse, players have no choice if they get Raiden Shogun or Kujou Sara as those two require ascension materials dropped by the Thunder Manifestation. So it’s time to heed some safety protocols before trying to catch this type of lightning in Genshin Impact.

Updated October 28, 2021, by Sid Natividad: It has been several weeks already since the Thunder Manifestation was introduced and its notoriety has so far remained constant. It’s an angrier and more shocking version of the Oceanid boss fight, thus more advice is warranted on how to beat the Thunder Manifestation. Truth be told, the fight is straightforward and just requires tons of practice. Still, there are some things you can do to speed up the process in how to defeat the Thunder Manifestation. Because at the end of the day, the Genshin Thunder Manifestation is just another boss to be farmed over and over again. Players will need its materials so it’s high time to look at more tips and tricks.

Unlocking Thunder Manifestation

If players haven’t already done so, or if they’re just returning from a long hiatus, they can unlock the Thunder Manifestation through the Seirai Stormchasers questline. It’s a somewhat lengthy World Quest that needs to be finished and culminates toward the unlocking of the Thunder Manifestation.

New or returning players can simply go to Katheryn in Inazuma to initiate the quest. Players need to be aware that there’s a lengthy exploration and simple puzzle involved in the quest. That would be the quest stage called “Search for the Path to the Warding Stone.” If players are having difficulties unlocking or finishing this part (which is arguably the most tedious) then this step-by-step guide should help.

Once they’re done, the storm in the middle of the Seirai Islands will clear up and the Thunder Manifestation will be available. Players will have to defeat it once so they can permanently unlock the World Boss. In order to make the fight easier, these tips below should suffice.

Get Help From Co-op

There’s no shame in this. People understand that the Thunder Manifestation is a tough nut to crack and there’s usually a busy queue of players lining up for co-op to defeat the Thunder Manifestation. There are lots of benefits in playing it with other people such as the fact that players don’t have to deal with the blunders of character switching.

Players can just focus on their preferred character and improve their combat readiness. Moreover, it also allows players to learn the moves of the Thunder Manifestation more comfortably. Such is the case if some of the players are more experienced or have better gear or characters.

It’s A Battle Of Attrition

Regardless of whether players are facing the Thunder Manifestation solo or with a group, they will do well in not rushing the fight. First off, the Thunder Manifestation has tremendous amounts of HP. Trying to burst it down by disregarding safety usually doesn’t go down well.

At best, players must settle for incremental damage or small but sure strikes. Another reason to play reactively and patiently is due to the fact that the Thunder Manifestation dodges a lot. Players will end up wasting their big attacks if they go at the boss eagerly or recklessly.

Practice Dashing Behind To Prevent It From Teleporting

As an added reason to go about the fight slower, players can practice a good maneuver to take advantage of the Thunder Manifestation’s AI weakness. Apparently, dashing behind it or moving behind it through sprinting after its big attack is a reliable way to prevent the boss from teleporting.

This will open up the Thunder Manifestation to some attack opportunities. The way to do this is to anticipate a straightforward and slowly telegraphed attack (more on its moves below) and then dash into the attack, utilizing the invincibility frames. This will bring the players close to the back of the Thunder Manifestation where it will turn around and forego its teleportation moveset.

Don’t Bring an Electro DPS Carry

If it isn’t obvious enough, the Thunder Manifestation is a pure Electro elemental or creature. It’s not like an Electro Abyss Mage or a Fatui Cicin Mage who still take damage from Electro attacks. The Thunder Manifestation is immune to all kinds of Electro damage.

That sadly means the latest characters in the 2.1 update, Raiden Shogun and Kujou Sara are more or less useless against it. Staple Electro heavy hitters like Beidou are also ill-advised since her damage mostly comes from her Electro Elemental Burst.

Cryo & Pyro DPS Make the Fight Easy

So what kind of DPS characters will take down this flying behemoth easily? Really, anything from Genshin Impact’s two favorite elements, Pyro and Cryo will do. Cryo is especially useful against Electro enemies since that’s one of Electro’s weaknesses.

Pyro is also an effective element against Electro shields and units. The Overload elemental reaction adds up and makes damage against the Thunder Manifestation all the more substantial. These Pyro and Cryo characters thus make the fight somewhat of a breeze:

Ganyu Hu Tao Ayaka

Bring a Ranged DPS

As with many of Genshin Impact’s bosses, the Thunder Manifestation is an evasive creature. It sometimes moves fast and also floats several meters into the air, rendering a lot of melee attacks useless. For that matter, it’s best to bring a ranged DPS character in order to deal more consistent damage.

Otherwise, players can count the Thunder Manifestation’s floating phases as invulnerability phases since they’ll do little to no damage once the boss does that. These ranged DPS characters ought to be more helpful:

Ganyu Klee Ningguang Yoimiya Childe Xingqiu (with Elemental Burst)

Bring a Shielder

The fight with the Thunder Manifestation is so crammed with many relentless fast attacks that players will often find their characters out of Stamina. Conserving Stamina by just moving instead of dodging is also risky as the Thunder Manifestation’s attacks are fast.

Hence, a more viable solution would be to bring a character that can generate shields. This way, players can be more relaxed in the boss fight and tank some attacks as well as make their character’s combos temporarily immune to interruption. A list of competitive shielders include:

Zhongli Diona Noelle

Also, Bring a Healer or Use NRE

Then again, some of the Thunder Manifestation’s attacks are so powerful that they might chew up a fresh shield so easily. Such is the case if players forget to dodge out of the way or some bad RNG dictated that the boss chains up its most damaging moves.

That’s why insurance in the form of a team healer is due. These reliable healers ensure some emergency backup in case the shields don’t hold:

Diona Barbara Jean Bennett

If not, then players can rely on their NRE or food though they might want to make sure their food quality is at least blue in order to maximize healing.

Don’t Go All Out On Attacks

Depending on the speed of a character’s Elemental Burst, players might want to reconsider mashing that Burst button. The Thunder Manifestation can move fast and even teleport or blink around the battlefield. That or it can simply hover a bit higher and that Burst is as good as a glancing blow.

Thus, it’s best to play conservatively when it comes to damaging the Thunder Manifestation. If players are using these characters, then they might want to watch the boss’s moves before doing their Burst:

Diluc Eula Ayaka Childe Zhongli Hu Tao

There are characters who can go all out safely since their Bursts are fast or are continuous, such as:

Xiao Xiangling Ganyu Klee Yanfei Yoimiya Xingqiu

Learn Its Moves

The deadliest part of the Thunder Manifestation fight is its lightning-quick attacks and some seemingly unfair homing abilities. Learning to work around them or evade them is key to survival.

Blink: The Thunder Manifestation teleports itself instantly anywhere in the arena. Dive Attack: The Thunder Manifestation will fly and quickly dive towards the players, repositioning itself. Electro Blades: The Thunder Manifestation will summon five floating Electro feathers and will launch them to the players. It’s telegraphed well and easily avoidable. Electro Explosion: The Thunder Manifestation will explode in a small AoE, dealing Electro damage. Avoid it by backing up. Electro Shockwave: The Thunder Manifestation flies up higher and will roar, sending out Electro shockwaves with a large AoE. At this point, players must stop their attacks and resort to a shield.

Lightning Rod Prison: The Thunder Manifestation will single out players with a homing lightning prison as a mark, after which it will unleash a continuous and focused torrent of lightning attacks on a chosen target. It will follow the target if the target moves. Again, a shield might be necessary here though do note that it won’t last long against such a barrage. Lightning Storm: The Thunder Manifestation will unleash a widespread lightning storm in the area and they will try to hit the players. Dashing periodically to avoid their landing spots is a good countermeasure. A shield is better. Lightning Walls: The Thunder Manifestation will summon two Electro walls that will attempt to close in on the players. Players can easily avoid this by running out of the walls’ range. Rolling Attack: The Thunder Manifestation will curl up its wings and then spin towards the players. It’s easily avoided. Strike Probes: The Thunder Manifestation will fly higher and conjure several Electro sigils in the air. When activated, these will deal area Electro damage around it.

Getting Hit Once Will Lock The Target To That Player

Another reason why players might want to be thoroughly careful with the majority of the Thunder Manifestation’s attacks is that getting hit once locks the boss’s attention to that target. This makes it easier for the boss to unleash its homing attacks.

In co-op, this can be exploited, where “tank” players will grab the boss’s attention while others focus on Bursting down the Thunder Manifestation.
