While there may not be a definitive party setup that is ideal for taking on Stormterror, players should prioritize party members with high damage output that are complimented by support DPS for elemental reactions. Unlike most bosses in Genshin Impact, Stormterror will be flying above the player for most of the battle, effectively making him inaccessible to melee characters.
As a result, players with an effective ranged DPS character should be sure to add this character to their roster for the fight against Stormterror. While Ganyu and Venti work best for this role, F2P players can supplement for Fischl or even Amber if their level is high enough.
Unlike the fight against Tartaglia or Lupus Boreas, the fight against Stormterror does not contain multiple phases and his attack roster remains static throughout the battle. While Stormterror may look threatening, he is one of the easiest of the three weekly bosses to defeat once players grasp his attack patterns.
While most bosses in Genshin Impact have players slowly chip away at the enemy’s health, in the Stormterror fight, players must continuously damage the enemy’s shield, which, when depleted, will reveal the dragon’s weak point and allow players to damage his health bar. When Stormterror’s shield is depleted, the boss will collapse on the platform the player is standing on and reveal a crystal on his neck that players can damage in order to deplete his health. When incapacitated, players will only have a short window to damage Stormterror, so it is important to build up party members’ elemental burst while depleting Stormterror’s shield in order to activate them when his weak point is exposed.
One of Stormterror’s most frequently used moves is his sweeping attack. During the attack, players will see Stormterror flying towards their platform at a high rate of speed. To dodge the attack, players must dash quickly to either the left or right of the platform in order to avoid taking damage.
The second most frequent attack that Stormterror will utilize is his bite attack. Unlike the sweeping attack, Stormterror’s bite is slightly more difficult to avoid, but the move is easily telegraphed. Players will know Stormterror is about to bite when he hovers in place close to the center of the platform the player is standing on. To avoid the attack, players must quickly dash as Stormterror’s head begins to dart forward.
One of Stormterror’s most dangerous moves is his Breath Sweep ability. When casting the ability, Stormterror will perch himself on the platform the player is standing on and emit a high damage attack from his mouth across the platform. When Stormterror utilizes this move, players should immediately dart to the opposite side of the platform that the boss is beginning his attack from. This will allow the player time to continuously damage Stormterror’s shield by attacking his leg which will be perched on the platform.
While the majority of Stormterror’s attacks are melee-based, he has two ranged abilities where he will generate wind orbs from a distance that will shoot towards the player. These orbs can be easily avoided by moving in the opposite direction of where they are appearing to land.
The final move that players must look out for when facing Stormterror is his signature skill “Cracking Roar.” During this ability, Stormterror will let out a loud cry, and the platform the player is standing on will begin to glow and deal damage to the player over time. When Stormterror utilizes this ability, the player must use the wind streams on the edges of the platform to move to an adjacent platform until they find one that is not affected by Stormterror’s roar.
After completing the fight, players will unlock multiple high-level Gladiator and Wanderer’s Troupe set artifacts, and if their adventure rank is high enough, players can unlock several talent ascension materials.
