Typically, players will rely on grinding and luck to expand their collection. Throughout playing, fans gather a resource known as Primogems. Then, players can exchange the items for special Wishes. Wishes are part of the gacha system and will drop items or characters at random. The rating can range from 3 to 5, so drops have a chance to disappoint. However, repeat or unwanted items and characters can be turned into currency to buy more Wishes. And for some, exchanging a Genesis Crystal bought with real money is the easiest way to collect Primogems.

Fortunately, for a limited time, anyone looking to snag Barbara can avoid the gacha trap. Shockingly, fans can collect her for free. That said, there is a catch players will need to look out for. To begin this process, the Genshin Impact account will have needed to be created before September 28, 2020. Even if a fan falls outside of this category, not all hope is lost. This option is also available for those who made an account before patch 1.1. The update came out on November 11, so there is still a chance for some players.
Now comes the hard part. To actually get Barbara, players have to level up to Adventure Rank 20. Do not fret, despite the grind it will take to reach this point, there are plenty of fun ways to reach it fast. Other than performing main story missions, those playing Genshin Impact can rely on Daily Commissions. Four commissions, each providing 200 Adventure EXP, are available each day. Some other ways include hunting down bosses and clearing domains for a few hundred EXP apiece.
Once reaching Adventure Rank 20, a 4-star Barbara will become available for players to add to their team. Not being a 5-star character may seem like a bummer at first, but the hero is extremely versatile for compositions and multiplayer. By combining her Hydro ability with other elemental attacks, fans can crush their enemies with ease. While the starting characters in Genshin Impact are free too, collecting Barbara should be on every player’s list.
Genshin Impact is available now on Android, iOS, PC, and PS4. A PS5 and Switch version is in development.
