Having recently been added in the 1.6 Midsummer Island Adventure update, Maguu Kenki is a large samurai with a variety of spectral abilities. Players who have faced the newly added boss should be aware that there are several key differences in this fight.

In the original Maguu Kenki fight, the boss has two forms: a standard form and a phantom form. In the Vagabond Sword challenge event, each Maguu Kenki only has a single form, however, one of the bosses is an Anemo spec enemy, and the other is a Cryo spec enemy.

Before facing the boss challenge players should note that there are four characters that receive a 20% damage bonus in the fight. These characters include Tartaglia, Keqing, Bennett, and Fischl.

In terms of party composition for the fight, players will want to include 1 main DPS, 1 shield user, 1 healer, and 1 support character. Like the Revived Primo Geovishap fight, the attacks of both Maguu Kenki have an extremely long reach and large AOE. As a result, having a shield user in the fight is an excellent way to avoid any unnecessary damage when focusing on one of the two bosses.

Having a healer during the fight can also be extremely important depending on the player’s DPS output. If the player’s party is not able to eliminate the Maguu Kenki quick enough, then having a healer is a nice insurance policy to get through the prolonged fight.

When starting the fight there are two ways that players can approach eliminating the Maguu Kenki. If players have high DPS characters with wide AOE attacks (Klee, Yanfei) then their strategy should be to group both bosses together and damage them simultaneously.

If players have a high enough DPS output, but no wide AOE characters, then they should try to focus on taking each Maguu Kenki out individually. This can be somewhat tricky depending on boss modifiers, however, it is a far safer strategy at tackling the boss.

One of the most challenging moves for players to avoid during the fight is the boss’s frost AOE. When cast, it will deal massive damage to the surrounding area, and deal damage over time to any party members that aren’t protected by a shield. Depending on time constraints, it is usually beneficial to retreat from the Frost zone and have the Maguu Kenki follow the player out of it.

Players should also note that, unlike the standard Maguu Kenki fight, in the Dual fight, players are able to use ranged weapons on the boss. This was originally not possible in the standard boss fight because of the phantom form.

In terms of difficulty and modifiers, players should set their time limit to 210, and only increase the blade wind ability of the boss. This is one of the most easily dodged attacks that the enemy has and is a good way to rack up points. Players should avoid altering any of the abilities of the Cryo Maguu Kenki as these abilities will provide a challenge for players during the fight.
