RELATED: Genshin Impact: Mistakes Players Make When Using Sangonomiya Kokomi
Raiden Shogun has one of the most interesting mechanics in Genshin Impact. The fact that she has some details for players to be aware of means that it’s easy to play the Electro Archon wrong. Therefore, players should be aware of some common mistakes to avoid when using Raiden Shogun.
Updated July 28, 2022, by Nahda Nabiilah: Raiden Shogun remains a large part of the Genshin Impact meta so far. Her excellent utility paired with the DPS she offers makes her one of the best units in Genshin Impact. However, despite her popularity among the community, her ease of use still leads to some common mistakes being made. To further emphasize the things players should avoid, this article has been updated to include more common mistakes, like ignoring Raiden Shogun’s Genshin Impact Constellations or failing to optimize her Elemental Burst.
10 Not Pairing Energy-Demanding Units With Raiden Shogun
As of Genshin Impact 2.8, Raiden Shogun has the highest Energy requirement for her Elemental Burst. Before her, the highest demand was 80 Energy, but Raiden top this with a whopping 90 Energy. Luckily though, the Electro Archon is adept at recharging her own Energy. In fact, this is the star of her kit.
Not only for herself, but Raiden Shogun is also the best Battery in Genshin Impact. Because of her prominence in recharging Energy, it’s a great idea to pair Energy-demanding units with Raiden Shogun. This way, the Electro Archon can easily maximize her potential.
9 Not Having Enough Critical Rate
When Raiden Shogun initially casts her Burst, she will deal massive damage, scaling with her Chakra Desiderata count. This can easily one-shot many units if players properly Crit, but if they fail to deal Critical Hits, then the DPS lost will be massive as well. Because of this, it’s important for players to have a decent Critical Rate.
Since Raiden Shogun’s ascension stat bonus isn’t Critical Rate or Damage, this task can be quite tough. On top of that, her best-in-slot weapon, Engulfing Lightning, doesn’t provide any Crit bonus either. Sadly, the only way to handle this mistake is to farm patiently and pray to the gacha gods for artifacts with great Critical Value.
8 Underestimating Her Constellations
Raiden Shogun’s Constellations can turn her from a great unit to a sub-DPS beast. The best part is players don’t even need to get all of her Constellations for this. The Electro Archon’s C1 is helpful, but not that important. Meanwhile, her C2 is easily one of the best Constellations in Genshin Impact.
With C2 Raiden, all of her Musou Isshin hits will ignore 60% of the enemy’s DEF. This will result in an insane bump on the Archon’s DPS. Afterward, players can also aim for C3 to get three levels on Raiden Shogun’s Elemental Burst. Three precious levels when combined with the C2 effect will turn Raiden into one hell of a character.
7 Not Being Aware Of Diminishing Return
Raiden Shogun’s best-in-slot artifact, the Emblem of Severed Fate, has an effect that increases Burst damage if players stack Energy Recharge (ER) on the user. This may cause people to stack as much ER as possible on the Electro Archon.
Unfortunately, while this move is completely sensible, Raiden Shogun has shown a clear case of diminishing return. Therefore, players need to adjust her artifact’s main stat according to her weapon’s sub stat:
Energy Recharge : Attack Timepiece is better than Energy Recharge. Attack Goblet is also better than Electro. Other subs : Use Energy Recharge Timepiece and Electro Goblet.
6 Not Using Elemental Skill Before Burst
Raiden Shogun’s Elemental Skill grants an Eye of Stormy Judgment to nearby party members. This ability has a 100% uptime with 25 second duration, but only 10 second cooldown. If players cast an Elemental Burst while they have the Eye of Stormy Judgment, their Burst damage will be enhanced according to the character’s Energy requirement.
For example, if players use Ningguang’s ultimate, then her damage is enhanced by 12% (40 Energy x 0.3% (Talent level 9)). Meanwhile, with Ei, her 90 Energy Burst will lead to a 27% extra Burst damage. This means Raiden Shogun basically has a free 2-Noblesse Oblige effect on her kit. So before players use any Burst, they should remember to activate Raiden’s Elemental Skill first.
5 Neglecting Raiden Shogun’s Resolve Stack
The most unique part of Raiden Shogun’s kit is her reliance on Resolve Stack. If players put the Electro Archon in their party, they will soon notice a purple ring behind the active character. This circle represents the number of Resolve Stack Raiden currently has. The easiest way to gain these Stacks is by using Elemental Burst. Other than that, Ei will also gain two Stacks when a character gains Elemental Orbs or Particles (every three seconds).

The more Resolve Stack Raiden has, the more damage her Elemental Burst will deal. This damage addition applies to both her initial hit and 7s Musou Isshin damage, so if players use Raiden’s Burst at zero-stack, they’ll find the Archon dealing underwhelming damage.
4 Not Using Raiden To Restore Energy
If used properly, Raiden Shogun’s Elemental Burst can deal high numbers. This may cause people to swap her out right after the initial hit, completely ignoring the existence of her Musou Isshin. However, while her Sword’s damage may not be as impressive as other DPS like Hu Tao, players should still utilize these 7s to restore Energy to the team.
Every 1s, up to five times, the Electro Archon will restore 2.5 Energy (Talent level 10) to the entire party. So at max, people will enjoy a massive 12.5 Energy on every character. If players build Raiden on Energy Recharge (ER), at 300% ER, this number is bumped even higher to 27.5 Energy per character. This part of her kit easily makes Raiden Shogun the best Battery in Genshin Impact.
3 Enhancing Her Normal Attack Damage
After casting her Elemental Burst, Raiden Shogun will take the field for seven seconds, where she will deal great Electro damage in this duration. Usually, abilities like this will still scale with Normal Attacks, like Hu Tao’s or Xiao’s. However, Raiden has her own multiplier on her Burst.
Therefore, it’s important to note that Musou Isshin’s damage is considered Burst damage. This means that using items like 4-Gladiator’s Finale will be useless for Raiden. On the other hand, the Electro Archon will work perfectly with artifacts like Emblem of Severed Fate or Noblesse Oblige. Additionally, as Raiden will not be using her Normal Attack, players should ignore this ability when leveling up her talent.
2 Pairing Raiden With Skills That Trigger On Normal Attack Hits
When Raiden Shogun was first released, many players raged. Many said that HoYoverse removed her synergy with Beidou, and claimed that the developer doesn’t want Raiden to work with the only character she can work with. Luckily, soon enough fans realized the potential that Ei has, and this issue never resurfaced. However, this mechanic is important to remember.

There are some abilities that trigger when players do a certain action. For example, Xingqiu’s Burst triggers when a character does a Normal Attack, but it triggers when Raiden Shogun is in her Musou Isshin state (where her attacks are considered Burst damage). Curious as it is, players can easily notice thatXingqiu’s ultimate is triggered by an attack “movement” instead of “hit”. Meanwhile, Beidou’s triggers on Normal or Charged Attack “hit.” As Raiden’s “hit” that takes place wielding Musou Isshin is considered Burst damage, Beidou’s ultimate doesn’t work with Raiden. This also goes for other effects like Electro Traveler’s Burst and Skyward Spine’s passive.
1 Underestimating Her Synergy With Kujou Sara
Kujou Sara’s viability in Genshin Impact is often frowned upon, as she’s not as useful as Bennett. However, players should not miss out on the Tengu Warrior. With this character featured in both of Raiden Shogun’s banners, with some luck, players should get six Genshin Impact Constellations on Kujou Sara.
At C6, Sara becomes significantly better support for Electro characters. Her final Constellation will increase Electro Crit damage by a whopping 60%, giving a large increase to Raiden’s Musou Isshin damage.
Genshin Impact is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is currently in development.
