As a niche Genshin Impactsupport, Gorou can only be used in specific teams. So far, only Noelle and Arataki Itto can be properly paired with him. Because Gorou is not a common unit to use, it’s highly understandable if players make the following mistakes.

7 Stacking DEF

Gorou’s main role in a Genshin Impact team is to be the support that grants DEF buff. However, unlike typical characters, this buff won’t scale with Gorou’s stat. Rather, it purely depends on his talent level. Therefore, stacking DEF on the Canine Warrior will not enhance the bonus he grants.

There are still some cases where DEF is useful, but Genshin Impact players still shouldn’t focus on this stat. Gorou is completely playable even without triple DEF artifacts or a set that enhances DEF.

6 Ignoring Energy Recharge

Because Gorou will not benefit much from DEF artifacts, players should pay more attention to his Energy Recharge (ER) stat instead. Gorou’s Elemental Burst is basically an extension of his Skill, with some extra effects. If Travelers can ensure the Canine Warrior has enough ER, the team can have endless DEF buff. For this, there are several options; using the correct artifacts, wielding a proper bow, or simply equipping an Energy Recharge artifact.

For Gorou’s weapon in Genshin Impact, Favonius Warbow is highly recommended. This bow provides low Base ATK, but a large sub-stat in return. Considering Gorou doesn’t need ATK stat, this weapon is perfect for him.

Furthermore, as the Watasumi General is a poor Battery, Favonius Warbow can help him become a proper Energy generator. The only downside is that the wielder of Favonius weapons in Genshin Impact has to have a sufficient Critical Rate to properly trigger its passive.

5 Not Playing With Several Geo Units

Gorou’s performance in Genshin Impact highly relies on the number of Geo units that exist in the party. Players have to bring at least three Geo characters for the Canine Warrior to reach his maximum potential. Meanwhile, the fourth unit can be any Element.

This is what players will lose if they only have Gorou as the Geo wielder on the team:

Increased resistance to interruption (Requires two Geo on the team) 15% Geo DMG Bonus (Requires three Geo on the team)

Afterward, if players manage to unlock Gorou’s sixth Constellation in Genshin Impact, they will lose these additional effects:

20% Geo Crit DMG (Requires two Geo on the team) 40% Geo Crit DMG (Requires three Geo on the team)

4 Building Gorou As A Damage Dealer

Although a “machine gun Gorou” is a common meme among the community, building the Canine Warrior as a damage dealer is far from optimal. Gorou has a low multiplier on his Normal Attack, while his Elemental Skill and Burst barely deal damage.

The Watatsumi General’s Skill deals one damage upon cast, scaling with his ATK. Meanwhile, his Burst scales with his DEF and deals numerous damage, but the numbers are still way too low to be reliable. Because of this, players can easily forget about using Geo DMG Goblet on Gorou.

3 Building Gorou As A Healer

Gorou’s fourth Constellation in Genshin Impact allows him to be a minor healer. When the party includes two or more characters that wield the Geo Vision, Gorou’s Elemental Burst will heal characters within its AoE by 50% of Gorou’s DEF (Can occur once every 1.5s).

Even though this is an acceptable addition to Gorou’s kit, it’s still not enough to make him a dedicated healer. Even if players build the Canine Warrior with DEF and Healing Bonus, his healing will still be negligible.

2 Not Considering The Exile Artifacts

Usually, a buffer in Genshin Impact would be paired with artifacts that can buff the team. This is either Tenacity of the Millelith or Noblesse Oblige. However, even though Gorou should ensure 100% uptime on his Burst, Noblesse Oblige is still not a good option for him.

Characters that Gorou buffs would be units that rely on DEF. Meanwhile, Noblesse Oblige increases ATK. The best pair with Gorou; Arataki Itto, and Noelle, barely need ATK, so Noblesse would be a waste. Instead, players can try using The Exile. This artifact doesn’t have a 5-star version, but it can help Gorou become an even better Battery in Genshin Impact. Considering both Noelle and Itto are highly reliant on their Burst, The Exile can really bring Gorou to a new level of usefulness.

1 Not Having An Aura Enabler On The Team

Gorou may need three Geo characters on the team to function properly, but the fourth slot can be filled with any Element. For the final spot, it’s highly recommended for players to bring a Genshin Impact character that can apply Element on the enemies. This is either Cryo, Pyro, Hydro, or Electro.

This is mainly because Gorou’s Elemental Burst can easily trigger Crystallize reactions. Afterward, this ability will pull one Elemental Shard every 1.5s, ensuring the players are always protected by a shield. Furthermore, after unlocking his C2, Gorou can extend the duration of his Burst by up to 3s if players obtain an Elemental Shard from a Crystallize reaction.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
