RELATED: Genshin Impact Trailer Shows Off New Character Sangonomiya Kokomi

Kokomi was shown in the story towards the end of the Genshin Impact 2.0 Update but, much like Sara Kujou and the Raiden Shogun, she was not made playable in that update. The first reveal of Kokomi’s gameplay was during the announcement of Genshin Impact 2.1, and players have awaited her banner since then.

Updated on March 14, 2022, by Nahda Nabiilah: One version after Sangonomiya Kokomi’s initial release in Genshin Impact, HoYoverse decides to bring out a new artifact set that has the potential to be Kokomi’s best equipment. This item, Ocean-Hued Clam will allow healers to take more offensive roles with its damage passive. Previously, healing is considered unnecessary in the meta as shielders are far more practical and beneficial. But with the existence of Ocean-Hued Clam, fans no longer have to feel like they’re wasting some “over heal” as the artifact will passively deal damage according to the amassed healing.

Kokomi Talent Overview

Kokomi has a 3-hit attack combo that deals Hydro Damage, while her elemental skill creates a spectral jellyfish known as “Bake-Kurage”, which deals Hydro damage in an area around its location while healing nearby characters at set intervals. The amount of healing done by this skill is determined by Kokomi’s max HP. Her ability to deal damage and heal allies is increased even further when her elemental burst “Nereid’s Ascension” is active.

While Nereid’s Ascension is in effect, Kokomi dons a ceremonial robe that boosts the damage of her normal attacks, charged attacks, and Bake-Kurage by an amount determined by her max HP. This powerful elemental burst also increases her resistance to interruption and allows her to walk on water while it is active.

Kokomi’s Passive Skill, “Flawless Strategy” is a double-edged sword. It boosts her Healing by 25% while giving her a 100% decrease in Crit Rate. This means that boosts to Crit Rate and Crit Damage from artifacts will be ineffective.

Kokomi’s 1st Ascension talent is called “Tamanooya’s Casket”, and refreshes the duration of active Bake-Kurage when her elemental burst is activated. This allows players to time the use of her elemental burst to almost double the duration of her elemental skill.

Kokomi gains the talent “Song of Pearls” at 4th Ascension, which improves the damage bonus provided by Nereid’s Ascension by giving it a further increase equal to 15% of her Healing Bonus. This allows her to maintain higher damage even when building her to prioritize healing capabilities.

Finally, Kokomi has the passive skill “Princess of Watatsumi” which decreases the party’s stamina consumption when swimming by 20%. This can be helpful in exploring, especially in the flooded ruins sometimes encountered in Liyue and Inazuma.

In summary, Kokomi’s best weapon in Genshin Impact can be classified into two roles; DPS/Sub-DPS or Healer/Support.

Weapons For Kokomi’s Damage Build

Everlasting Moonglow Skyward Atlas Prototype Amber Oathsworn Eye Wine and Song Dodoco Tales

Kokomi is a catalyst user, and one of the most effective catalysts she can wield is the Everlasting Moonglow. This weapon grants additional HP as its second stat, which greatly benefits Kokomi as her elemental skill and elemental burst both gain additional power based on her max HP.

Its weapon skill increases the healing bonus by 10% while increasing the wielder’s normal damage by 1% of their max HP and causes normal attacks to restore 0.6 energy on hit for 12 seconds after using an elemental burst (This can only occur once every 0.1 seconds). These bonuses can be increased to a 20% healing bonus, with 2% of max HP added to normal attack damage if the weapon is refined 5 times.

Considering how Everlasting Moonglow may not be worth the Primogems required to get it, players can also opt for Prototype Amber as a F2P alternative. This weapon provides everything Kokomi needs, including HP, minor healing, and energy restoration. On the other hand, Skyward Atlas has an attack sub-stat instead of HP, but the stat can still be great if Kokomi is built to deal damage. With the Ocean-Hued Clam artifact, the Divine Priestess can be a great on-field DPS.

If players don’t own either weapon, then the free catalyst Oathsworn Eye is a viable option. Because Kokomi needs to activate her elemental burst to deal damage, weapons that have energy recharge secondary stat will come in handy.

Weapons For Kokomi’s Healer or Support Build

Everlasting Moonglow Prototype Amber Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers Hakushin Ring

While Everlasting Moonglow is almost certainly Kokomi’s ideal weapon, there is a very cost-effective alternative for players who haven’t been able to acquire it. Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers is a 3-Star weapon that can be acquired very easily and also grants HP as its second stat. Additionally, its weapon skill grants characters switching in an additional 48% attack for 10 seconds (this can only occur once every 20 seconds). This is useful as it allows Kokomi to grant attack power to another character as she switches out after providing healing.

Alternatively, if players want a more team-wide buffing, then they can equip Kokomi with Hakushin Ring. As long as Kokomi triggers electro-charged, she will constantly grant Electro and Hydro damage bonuses to the whole party.

Since Kokomi’s passive ability “Flawless Strategy” renders critical chance and damage bonuses useless, it is far more important to prioritize HP, Hydro Damage Bonus, and Healing Bonus to make the most of her skillset.

Of these three, HP is easily the most important, as it influences the damage and healing of her elemental skill and elemental burst, in addition to increasing her survivability. Healing Bonus is also useful in this regard, especially once Ascension 4 has been reached and “Song of Pearls” is unlocked, which will allow her healing bonus to improve the damage bonuses her elemental burst provides.

Artifacts For Kokomi’s Damage Build

4-Ocean-Hued Clam 4-Heart of Depths 2-Maiden Beloved or Ocean-Hued Clam + 2-Heart of Depths 2-Maiden Beloved or Ocean-Hued Clam + 2-Tenacity of the Millelith

Ocean-Hued Clam is easily the best artifact set for offensive Kokomi. Although it will not directly enhance her normal attack damage like Heart of Depths, this item will accumulate Kokomi’s healing over the 3s and deal great Physical damage afterward. Every time the artifact deals damage, players can expect more than 25k damage in a small area. But note that the AoE of this equipment is quite small, so Kokomi should be positioned accordingly.

This set successfully shifted Heart of Depths as the best option for DPS Kokomi. Although the Hydro artifact may look like it enhances Kokomi’s damage higher than Ocean-Hued Clam, the healing artifact’s passive is the better option in the long run.

Artifacts For Kokomi’s Healer or Support Build

4-Tenacity of the Millelith (Buff support Kokomi) 4-Maiden Beloved 2-Maiden Beloved + 2-Ocean-Hued Clam 2-Maiden Beloved or Ocean-Hued Clam + 2-Tenacity of the Millelith

Tenacity of the Millelith (4-Pieces)

This artifact set grants a 20% bonus to max HP with two pieces, and a very useful party-wide attack boosting effect with four pieces. With four pieces, hitting a target with an elemental skill will increase the attack of nearby party members by 20% and shield strength by 30% for 3 seconds. This effect can occur once every 0.5 seconds. The extra max HP will make Kokomi’s elemental skill and burst more effective, while the attack boost will increase the effectiveness of the entire party.

Maiden Beloved (4-Pieces)

Considering how Kokomi has great healing even without healing bonus artifacts, using 4-Maiden Beloved may be redundant. Nevertheless, this option will yield the highest heal count compared to the rest of her options.

However, as getting a four-piece can be hard, players can use 2-Maiden Beloved + 2-Ocean-Hued Clam instead. This artifact will generate lower healing than 4-Maiden Beloved, but players won’t have to worry about activating the Maiden Beloved’s four-piece effect with this combination.

Tenacity of the Millelith (2-Pieces) and Maiden Beloved (2-Pieces)

This combination grants a large increase to both max HP and Healing power, greatly enhancing Kokomi’s attack and Healing capabilities thanks to the way her elemental skills and bursts function, especially after “Song of Pearls” is unlocked at Ascension 4, adding 25% of her Healing Power to the damage bonuses granted by her elemental burst.

Best Teammates for Kokomi

Kokomi is an excellent Hydro Support character with access to fantastic healing and decent damage output, especially when paired with Pyro element damage dealers like Diluc, Klee, Yanfei, or Hu Tao. Hu Tao pairs well with Kokomi, as Hu Tao benefits from dropping herself below half health, but can suffer from survivability issues without a reliable healer to switch in when she runs into trouble.

Klee can also be quite squishy, and having a powerful healer on the team can keep her active for much longer. Additionally, the vaporize reaction deals exceptional damage to targets, which means characters with access to AoE Pyro damage like Klee and Yanfei can really pile on the damage to large groups with the aid of a well-placed Bake-Kurage.

Cryo element damage dealers or supports are also beneficial, as they can take advantage of the freeze reaction to lock down potentially dangerous targets while focusing on other threats.

Characters like Rosaria and Chongyun can work especially well, as their elemental bursts make it easy to apply constant Cryo damage, allowing them to repeatedly apply the freeze reaction on enemies within an area. Ayaka is also very useful in this regard, thanks to her special dash skill applying Cryo.

Electro element support characters, Like the Traveler (Electro), Raiden Shogun, or Beidou can be of great use in dealing extra damage over time and further enhancing Kokomi’s attacks.

Abilities like the Traveler’s “Bellowing Thunder”, Raiden Shogun’s “Transcendence: Baleful Omen”, or Beidou’s “Stormbreaker” can add some electro damage to Kokomi’s attacks, setting off the electro-charged reaction and inflicting extra damage over time to any enemy Kokomi hits with her basic attacks. When they’re attacking themselves, they can take full advantage of the Bake-Kurage to set off the electro-charged reaction while healing at the same time.

Genshin Impact is available now for PlayStation 4, Android, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, and iOS.
