Though Fontaine has yet to be released in Genshin Impact, the community already has a pretty good idea of what to expect from the location. This stems from some of the game’s promotional material and the dialogue of NPCs who hail from Fontaine.

Fontaine, a Genshin Impact Region
Act IV of the main story will take place in Fontaine, as revealed by the Genshin Impact story trailer. Presided over by the yet unnamed Hydro Archon, Fontaine values justice above all else. However, the nation also seems to prize technology and the arts. It even has a newspaper publication read all across Teyvat known as “The Steambird.” Most of the information surrounding Fontaine, however, comes from its NPCs.
A recent example is in the timebound Genshin Impact event Core of the Apparatus. Here, the Traveler meets a toymaker named Bertrand who hails from Fontaine. Completing his set of quests requires that the player collect different materials that can be used to create toys. The resulting products are intricately designed toys with moving mechanical parts.
Another example can be seen in the Tatara Tales World Quest in Genshin Impact. During the quest, the player learns that Xavier, a businessman from Fontaine, helped develop the Mikage Furnace found in Kannazuka, Inazuma. He did this in hopes of promoting Fontaine’s advanced technology. However, the device began to malfunction, and Xavier turned to the Traveler for help. After the questline, Xavier decides to create a film based on the Traveler’s heroics, and it just so happens that the Kamera was invented in Fontaine.
As for upcoming playable Genshin Impact characters from Fontaine, the only confirmed options are Lyney and Lynette, who were also featured in the story trailer. The two appear to be siblings and wear clothes befitting of a circus act. Lyney has been described to look like a magician, while Lynette has cat-like features and could be a trapeze artist. Aside from them, the Hydro Archon will most likely be a playable character as well.
Lastly, the region of Fontaine is inspired by real-world France. Based on the NPCs’ attire, it seems to take inspiration from what France was like in the early 1900s. The name of the nation is also “fountain” in French, which is fitting since it’s governed by the Hydro Archon. It’s said that the Oceanids of Genshin Impact (including the boss located east of Qingce Village) originated from Fontaine, but left due to disagreements with the reigning Archon.
Genshin Impact Leaks Surrounding Fontaine
Admittedly, there aren’t too many reliable leaks about Fontaine at the moment. However, there’s been recent news about the Genshin Impact devkit being hacked. Related to this, some leakers have announced that the Fontaine-related content has been unpacked. This means the community can expect plenty of Fontaine leaks soon. However, other leakers have expressed their desire to stay out of the hacking fiasco for fear of HoYoverse taking legal action.
It seems that the community will have to settle for Genshin Impact Sumeru leaks for now. The situation surrounding Fontaine leaks is still muddy at best. That said, it’s likely that HoYoverse will drop more hints when Sumeru is released, and these bits of lore could even cover other regions, like Natlan and Snezhnaya. So, with or without Fontaine leaks, players are sure to get some new information in time.
Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
