RELATED: Genshin Impact: How to Search for the Path to the Warding Stone
In Genshin Impact 2.1, players can find ripples in bodies of water indicating that the spot contains fish to catch. Each spot has its own species, so players have to take a close look at each ripple to find the fish that they need. Luckily, when it comes to Medaka, it shouldn’t be hard to find as the fish is very common and can be spotted in multiple places. Here is where Medaka can be found in Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma.
Updated November 21, 2021, by Nahda Nabiilah: Medaka is one of the many fish species that were introduced in Genshin Impact 2.1. They are small in size and very easy to catch. Unlike some species that require a certain in-game time to be spawned, the basic Medaka can be found in any in-game time.
In Genshin Impact 2.2, two new fishing spots are added on Tsurumi Island, both containing Medaka. For players who think that this basic fish is useless, they actually have extra use in food processing. The Medaka family can be processed into one Fish. So they won’t sit in the inventory for no purpose.
Medaka Locations in Mondstadt
In Mondstadt, Medaka can be found at these locations:
Springvale Stormbearer Mountains Stormterror’s Lair Windrise
Most of the fishing spots in Mondstadt are near Teleport Points, namely Springvale, Windrise, and Stormbearer Mountain. In Stormterror’s Lair, players have to take some time to walk to the fishing spots.
Medaka can also be found at the special fishing spot in Dragonspine. Players can use the Teleport Point west of Skyfrost Nail, then walk their way to the small lake. Dragonspine is a harsh environment, so people should remember to stay warm from the sheer cold.
Medaka Locations in Liyue
Just like in Mondstadt, there are six spots for Medaka in Liyue. They are:
Dihua Marsh Southwest of Qingce Village Mt. Aocang Nantianmen Tianqiu Valley
For the fishing spot southwest of Qingce Village, there’s a Teleport Point west of the fishing spots. As for the one in Nantianmen, players can utilize Azhdaha’s domain for faster travel.
Medaka Locations in Inazuma
Inazuma used to have the least amount of Medaka locations. After Genshin Impact 2.2, there are now a total of six Medaka fishing spots:
Nazuchi Beach North of Sangonomiya Shrine Suigetsu Pool Fort Hiraumi West of Chirai Shrine South-West of Autake Plains
The one in Chirai Shrine is fairly easy to locate. All players need to do is teleport to the Waypoint west of the Shrine. On the other hand, the Autake Plains fishing spot is a bit tricky. First, players need to start a fishing quest with the ghost, Ipe. Then, go to the island by the shore (the one with a Hilichurl Hut on it). The spot can be revealed by using the Peculiar Pinion on a Thunderbird Statue.
Medaka is the basic fish in Genshin Impact. Catching them is crucial in the early angling time. This is because they are needed to obtain blueprints for bait recipes.
By talking to Nantuck in Mondstadt, players can exchange three Medaka for one bait blueprint. So in total, players need nine Medaka to be able to craft all kinds of baits.
How To Catch Medaka
Every fish only responds to one type of bait. Medaka itself responds to the Fruit Paste Bait. For this one, the bait is automatically accessible to craft on the Crafting Table. Players require one Sunsettia and one Wheat to create 10 Fruit Paste Bait. Sunsettia is a common fruit that can be found on trees, while Wheat can be bought from the General Store.
Players will also need a fishing rod, and there are a few available in Genshin Impact. The first option players unlock is the Wilderness Rod, which is acquired during the Exploding Population World Quest. This quest teaches players the basics of fishing. These are the other rods in Genshin Impact:
Windtangler – Sold by Mondstadt Fishing Association Wishmaker – Sold by Liyue Fishing Association Narukawa Ukai – Sold by Inazuma Fishing Association Moonstringer – This was only available during September 2021’s Lunar Realm event.
Medaka does appear throughout the day, so players do not need to plan their schedule around catching the fish. However, once the fish has been caught from a location, it will take a few days to respawn. Consequently, players who wish to catch a few more fish need to visit some of the other locations.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
