Now that the gates to the game’s vast and colorful world are open, there are a few decisions players are going to have to make once they download it, like whether to play Genshin Impact solo or in co-op. In typical RPG fashion, the game will also throw a few of its own at players before they can really get started on their adventure. Chief among these opening decisions is which of the game’s two protagonists they will choose to be the main playable character.

Who Are The Twins?
One of Genshin Impact’s main selling points and differences from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is that, instead of controlling a lone protagonist, players can build a team of four heroes from a sizable selection of distinct characters. But before they can start forming their own custom team, players will have to start their adventure with just one character, known as the Traveler.
The Traveler can be selected from two twins, a male and a female known among fans as Aether and Lumine, respectively. At the start of Genshin Impact, the two are traveling through different worlds together when an angry god crosses their path, leading to an action-packed cutscene. It’s here that players are forced to choose between the two. Whoever they choose will become the Traveler, while the other is captured, which leads to their rescue becoming players’ main quest.
Which Twin Should You Select?
Despite the dramatic circumstances surrounding it, ultimately the choice between Aether and Lumine is purely cosmetic. Regardless of who players pick, the gameplay at the start of the game will be the exact same, right down to the base stats, weapons, and items they receive. In short, the only thing players need to keep in mind when the time to choose arrives is whether they want to play through the story as an anime boy or an anime girl.
Choosing the main protagonist might not be difficult, but there will be real challenges awaiting players once they set out. There are plenty of quests for them to take on while they explore Genshin Impact’s world, some of which, like quests that involve processing ingredients, might require an explanation or two before they can figure out what they need to do to complete them.
Genshin Impact is free-to-play for Mobile, PC, and PS4. A Switch version is also in development, and there are plans for a next-gen version.
