When that happens, Genshin Impact players need to be fully aware of what the rock star can bring to the table. In terms of mistakes people make when using Xinyan, here are some of the most common ones.
7 Underestimating Xinyan’s Supportive Ability
Some players may think she better fits as a Physical DPS, but Xinyan can actually perform as a support for other Physical units. Although not so good, her Skill can still provide some protection for a short time. When this shield is active, the character will gain a 15% extra Physical damage bonus.
Meanwhile, if players continuously get more copies of Xinyan, at the fourth Constellation, the Liyue rock star can reduce the enemy’s Physical RES by 15% when they’re hit by her Skill.
6 Xinyan Is One Half Of Pyro Resonance
As a Physical character, Xinyan’s Element is quite awkward. Typically, characters that deal Physical damage are either Electro or Cryo. This is likely done on purpose as the combination of the two Elements will create the Superconduct reaction. This Elemental reaction reduces the enemy’s Physical RES by 40%.
However, while Superconduct is two characters away from Xinyan, players can still utilize the rock star to activate the Pyro resonance. By far, this is one of the most favored synergies, where two Pyro units in the team will trigger a passive effect that enhances the team’s attack by 25%.
5 C6 Xinyan Can Be A Main DPS
Xinyan may be highly underwhelming as a Physical DPS when compared to other units like Eula, Razor, or Fischl. However, this is because, like Noelle, players have to unlock Xinyan’s final Genshin Impact Constellation to unleash her full potential.

As a character that requires Defense for her shield but Attacks for her hits, stacking more of the defensive stat won’t hurt at C6. With this enhancement, Xinyan’s Charged Attack will gain an Attack bonus equal to 50% of her Defense, allowing her to perform better as the main DPS.
4 Xinyan’s Shield Can Cleanse Elemental Debuff
When Genshin Impact first became available, many players were perplexed by the existence of Elemental debuffs. Basically, some domains and challenges apply a certain Element to the character, one that’d give various effects. For example, Hydro debuff will double the Skill and Burst cooldown, while Electro one will periodically drain Energy.
One thing that many people missed is that they can remove this debuff by self-infusing an Element, or getting hit by one that’d trigger an Elemental Reaction. For example, to remove Pyro debuff, players can self-infuse themselves with Hydro by using Barbara or Xingqiu. This same principle is applied with Xinyan and her Pyro application.
3 Using Xinyan As A Shielder
Xinyan can create a shield that scales with her Defense, somewhat similar to Noelle. However, when compared to other Genshin Impact shielders, Xinyan has the lowest number, making her the poorest choice for the role. This holds true even after getting C2 Xinyan, where the Liyue rock star will grant a shield when she uses her Burst.

If players are looking for a character that can provide protection, Zhongli is easily the best shielder in Genshin Impact. As for the “F2P friendly” ones, then Diona is one of the most popular picks. When it comes to Element, Geo is the best for this job as Geo shields have 50% higher strength compared to other Elements (although non-Geo shields are 150% stronger to their corresponding Element).
2 Building Xinyan On Pyro Items
Before Eula’s release in Genshin Impact, Xinyan was the only character that inflicts Physical damage on her Burst instead of her corresponding Element. She has some smaller Pyro DoT from her Burst and Skill, but they’re not worth investing in. Xinyan Pyro application is poor and can’t be counted on to win fights, so players should stay away from enhancing her Pyro damage.
Instead, if fans are playing Xinyan, either focus on making her a Physical DPS or maximize her shield (although shielder Xinyan is not recommended, she will still need it to maintain her supportive properties).
1 Overestimating Xinyan’s Pyro Application
If players activate Xinyan’s level three shield, she will deal Pyro damage every 2s for 12s. The application given by this ability isn’t so bad, but there are some issues.
First of all, Xinyan has to hit three opponents for this Pyro application to be triggered. So this feature is practically useless against bosses or enemies that aren’t usually flocking. Other than that, the Skill’s DoT will only persist if Xinyan’s shield exists. Considering how easy it is for her shield to break, players can easily lose this constant Pyro application.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
